Life
Aschan was born the son of a director. In Uppsala he enjoyed training as a doctor. From 1789 to 1790 he did military service. In 1794 he became a doctor in the Swedish fleet. In 1797 he accepted a position as a provincial doctor in Nora and Lindesberg . In 1801 he married Catarine Nilsson , the daughter of the hut owner Nils Nilsson in Närke . Supported by his wife's inheritance, he acquired the Lessebo iron and paper factory . However, as early as 1803 he was regimental doctor for the Småland light dragoons and lived in Småland. In 1812 he was briefly a provincial doctor on Öland . However, he resigned this position in the same year because he wanted to concentrate on his business activities again. In 1814 he was named a mountain ridge .
In 1824 Aschan acquired the Kleva gruva mine , which he successfully converted from copper to nickel in 1838 . He also owned several iron works and smelting furnaces and six paper mills. He lived in Lessebo. In 1853 he became a member of the Scientific Academy.
Aschan was involved in the anti-alcohol movement. He twice turned down offers to give him a place and vote in the Swedish House of Knights, especially for his success in nickel mining , on the grounds that only work could ennoble a man.
