Johan Skytte

Johan Skytte (* May 1577 in Nyköping ; † March 15, 1645 in the Församling Söderåkra , Kalmar län ) was a Swedish politician.

Skytte was the private tutor of the later King Gustav II Adolf . In 1622 he became Chancellor of Uppsala University , where he founded the Skyttean Professorship . The Johan Skytte Prize for Political Science, named after him, has been awarded at Uppsala University since 1995.

After becoming Governor General of Swedish Livonia , Swedish Ingermanland and Swedish Karelia , he also became Chancellor of the University of Tartu in 1632 .
