Johann Altzheim OCist († April 7, 1459 in the Bronnbach Monastery ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery Heiligenkreuz from 1447 to 1451 and abbot of Bronnbach from 1452 to 1459 .

From 1415 to 1433 Altzheim had studied and taught in Heidelberg , in 1434 he then enrolled at the University of Vienna , where he taught as a doctor of theology and served as dean of the theological faculty in 1437 and 1439 . At the same time he held the office of commissioner at St. Nikolaus-Kolleg, the study house of the Cistercians in Vienna (Singerstraße 13) that was preserved by Heiligenkreuz. In 1447, the Bronnbacher Konventuale, which in 1449 was designated as theologus perspicax (astute theologian) by Bishop Enea Silvio Piccolomini , later Pope Pius II (1458–1464), became abbot of the Heiligenkreuz monastery.

In 1451 Abbot Johann abdicated and returned to his professed monastery in Bronnbach. There he became abbot in autumn 1452. Until his death he vigorously defended the rights of his monastery and increased its property. He was buried in the chapter house of his home monastery, where his grave slab has been preserved to this day, albeit without a further name. The memory of him as an important theologian was also preserved.
