Johann Anton August Lüdeke

Johann Anton August Lüdeke (born August 24, 1772 in Magdeburg , † December 26, 1838 in Stockholm ) was a German- Swedish Lutheran theologian.

Life

Born as the son of the long-time chief pastor (first preacher) of the German St. Gertrud Congregation , Christoph Wilhelm Lüdeke , Lüdeke grew up in Stockholm. After studying at the universities of Uppsala and Göttingen , where he obtained his master's degree in 1798 , Lüdeke was ordained in 1799 and assigned to his father as an adjunct . In 1801 he became extraordinary court preacher and pastor of the German community in Norrköping . After the death of his father he was brought back to the St. Gertrud parish in Stockholm as the second pastor and in 1817 rose to the position of chief pastor, which he remained until his death. In 1818 he was at the University of Uppsala to Dr. theol. PhD.

As early as 1791 Lüdeke, with the help of his father, wrote a thorough dissertation on the history of the St. Gertrud congregation in Stockholm. The supplements to his sermon on the reopening of the German Church in Stockholm (1823) are also of historical value. He also published other sermons. His library with 600 manuscripts and more than 14,000 books was sold in 1840 after his death.
