Johann Benedikt Jörger

Johann Benedikt Jörger (born August 16, 1886 in Pfäfers , † March 2, 1957 in Chur ) was a Swiss psychiatrist , author, art critic, folklorist and naturalist.

Life

Jörger was the son of Johann Josef Jörger . He studied medicine at the universities of Basel , Florence and Zurich , specialized in psychiatry and received his doctorate in 1915.

He worked in the Rheinau Clinic and in Burghölzli in Zurich , and from 1918 in the Waldhaus Clinic in Chur . From 1930 to 1946 he was its director, succeeding his father. From 1947 to 1950 he was interim director of the St. Pirminsberg institution in Pfäfers.

Jörger published numerous writings on psychiatry, published a Christmas game each in 1919 and 1929 , some burlesques , comedies and fairy tale games "for the home and amateur stage ", some in Chur German .

Jörger also worked as an art critic and promoted nature and homeland protection . He was active as a folklorist in the traditional costume movement, was in charge of the Graubünden cross stitch pattern edition and designed the Landi parade in 1939 .

His beetle collection with 50,000 copies (2,000 species, including 500 new for Graubünden ) was taken over by the University of Basel .
