Johann Blümel

Johann Blümel (born August 6, 1890 in Graz , Styria , † January 18, 1959 in Voitsberg , Styria) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

Johann Blümel attended elementary school and a technical school and had to earn his living as an industrial worker at the age of 13. After initially working as a machine assistant in a paper mill, he found work in mining in 1919 . In 1925 he became youth and welfare office manager.

Blümel has been politically active since he was 18 when he joined the SdP in 1908, the forerunner of today's Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). Bluemel was also involved in trade unions , was in his company works council and later union main confidant.

In 1924 Blümel was elected Vice Mayor of Voitsberg; he stayed there until 1934. After that, he retired to private life and worked as a farmer . During the Nazi era , Blümel was briefly captured in 1944, but was quickly released again.

In 1945, immediately after the end of the war , Blümel took over as mayor of Voitsberg. In December of the same year he moved to the National Council in Vienna as a member of the SPÖ , to which he was to belong until November 1949.

Johann Blümel remained Mayor of Voitsberg until his death in January 1959. He was 68 years old.
