Johann Bruecker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Bruecker (born September 3, 1881 in Neu-Pasua (now Nova Pazova ), Serbia ; † June 3, 1965 in Schönaich near Stuttgart) was an American businessman and the inventor of the dry razor .

Life

Bruecker was born in Neu-Pasua in what is now Serbia in 1881. In 1907 he emigrated to the USA, where in 1915 he applied for a patent for a dry razor. For a good ten years he developed an electric razor, which he launched in 1937 under the name "Sunbeam Shavemaster" in 27 countries. Jacob Schick , who was already offering an electric shaver in 1931 , came before him with this invention .

In 1953, Bruecker went to southern Germany in search of his displaced brother Peter, whom he found in Schönaich near Stuttgart. The mass accommodation he saw there prompted him to build two apartment buildings. In the following years, Bruecker's Foundation built further new buildings in the community. His American hometown, Glendale , California, also benefited from his benefits.

From 1958, Bruecker's income from razor licenses fell significantly. He became impoverished and finally moved to Schönaich in 1962, where he lived in one of the apartments he had donated until his death in 1965.

The Johann-Bruecker-Schule and Johann-Bruecker-Straße in Schönaich remember the inventor and benefactor, who was made an honorary citizen of the community in 1954.
