Johann Carl Otto Jancke

Johann Carl Otto Jancke (born May 6, 1804 in Görlitz ; † April 1, 1870 there ) was a German librarian .

Life

Jancke was the son of the Görlitz pastor and historian Johann Christian Jancke (1757-1834) and his wife, the pastor's daughter Judith Florentine Mosig. From 1822 he studied theology in Breslau and became a member of the Corps Silesia there (probably immediately after starting his studies) . In 1824 he was at the University relegated , later, the penalty in the abeundi Consilium converted. After continuing his studies, he was given permission to preach in 1828. In 1846 Jancke compiled the first catalog for today's library of the State Museum of Natural History in Görlitz .

From 1848 onwards, he was particularly responsible for his work as editor of the New Lusatian Magazine . In the following years he also wrote a large number of historical articles for this historical journal. The late medieval mayor of Görlitz and humanist Johannes Frauenburg was a focus of his interest . Jancke is one of the founders of modern regional history research in Lusatia . From 1848 he was a private scholar , secretary of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences and librarian of the natural research society.
