Johann Caspar Lecke

Johann Caspar Lecke (born March 14, 1694 in Iserlohn ; † January 21, 1785 ibid) was an entrepreneur , Lord Mayor of Iserlohn and local historian. He wrote the first comprehensive city chronicle, which consisted of 267 handwritten pages and is now kept in the Iserlohn city archive.

Lecke was born the son of the businessman Anton Lecke and married Anna Sophie Brune from Iserlohn in 1722. Children: Luise Lecke (wife of Karl Georg von Raumer ), Caspar Friedrich Anton Lecke.

From 1742 he built a large house with stables, a coach house and a hall on the "Ackenbrock". Around the courtyard, which was called "Casparstein", an extensive park was built, the forerunner of today's park on the "Alexanderhöhe". The farm had its own water pipe and well. With its exotic plants and a long hedge, Lecke set an urban accent that still characterizes the southern city center today. In 1862, Alexander Löbbecke bought the site and built the shooting range and shooting range for the Iserlohner Bürger-Schützenverein.

Career

In 1715, Lecke received the title of Dr. jur. after studying in Cologne, Jena, Halle and Duisburg. In the first years of his career he was a lawyer and magistrate syndic for Menden, Arnsberg and Neuenrade. In the 1730s, entrepreneurship in the metalworking industry appeared on his résumé. He took part in the first scratching wire factory in Iserlohn and initiated the establishment of a brass union with a zinc smelter and brass smelter in the green . In 1733 he founded the Königsborn salt works .

In 1737, Lecke was elected Lord Mayor of Iserlohn. Under his aegis, the city grew in area. In 1738 the city's first stone town hall was built on the "Marktplatz" (today "Alter Rathausplatz"). In 1763 he proposed the establishment of an orphanage to give the many orphans after the Seven Years' War (1756–1763) accommodation. Due to disputes between the Protestant church and the administration, construction was postponed until 1771.
