Johann Christian Pfennig (born August 25, 1706 in Kröbeln , Niederlausitz , Electorate of Saxony , † March 16, 1787 ibid) was a German organ builder in Kröbeln.

Life

He was probably a brother or son of Johann Christoph Pfennig († after 1743/1761), who was an organ builder and organist in Wahrenbrück, Sonnewalde and Calau. Johann Christian Pfennig probably worked for Johann Ernst Hähnel in Meißen for a while, as the organ in Skassa is very similar to its structures. From around 1741 he worked as an organ builder in Kröbeln , where he also built harpsichords and pianos .

There is no further news about the son Christian Gottlieb Pfennig (born March 12, 1736). This is probably to be distinguished from Johann Gottlieb Pfennig (1722–1788), the son of Johann Christoph Pfennig, who was an organ builder and organist in Calau and Spremberg.

Works (selection)

Six new organs by Johann Christian Pfennig are known in what was then northern Saxony , plus three repairs and one repair offer. The organ in Skassa and the prospectus in Stolpen have been preserved . It is possible that new buildings or repairs, which are now assigned to Johann Christoph Pfennig or Johann Gottlieb Pfennig, were carried out by Johann Christian Pfennig.
