Johann Christian Schuch ( Polish Jan Chrystian Szuch ) (* 1752 in Dresden , † June 28, 1813 in Warsaw ) was a garden and landscape designer. He was court gardener to King Stanisław August Poniatowski and worked in Warsaw from 1775.

He learned horticulture from his father, who was a court gardener at the Dresden Wettiner-Hof , and continued his art studies at the Dresden University of Fine Arts . He visited the Kew Gardens , Schönbrunn and Versailles parks .

In 1775 he came to Poland, where he was first employed by Princess Izabella Lubomirska and Count Michał Jerzy Mniszech (1742-1806). He designed the parks in the Warsaw suburb of Mokotów and in Dęblin .

In 1781 he was appointed manager of the royal gardens by King Stanisław August Poniatowski. Together with Johann Christian Kamsetzer and Domenico Merlini , he designed the redesign of the Łazienki Park into an English landscape garden . He also designed the Wilanów park .

As an urban planner, he created two star-shaped squares on Marszałkowska Street in Warsaw .

Schuch established the first fruit nursery in Poland.

In 1811 he was elected a member of the Warsaw Society of Friends of Science .

He married Ludwika Wolska. His son, the architect Adolf Gregor Franz Schuch (1792–1880), took part in the November 1831 uprising.

Johann Christian Schuch was buried in the Evangelical Augsburg Cemetery in Warsaw . After the First World War, an avenue near the Łazienki Park was named after him. Monumental buildings for the foreign and education ministries were erected on the avenue. The Ministry of Education became the seat of the Warsaw Gestapo from 1939 to 1944.
