Johann Christoph Hilf

Johann Christoph Hilf (born November 1, 1783 in Thonbrunn ; † July 7, 1885 in Bad Elster ) was a German musician .

life and work

Johann Christoph Hilf grew up as the first child of the carpenter Matthäus Hülf and his wife Elisabeth Hülf in Thonbrunn in the Bohemian Vogtland . In order to support his family, he learned the trade of a weaver , later music was his main source of income. He moved to the neighboring town of Elster (later Bad Elster ) in Saxony, where he married Margaretha Zeitler on September 12, 1810 in the St. Peter and Paul Church.

The court director Staudinger asked him to cheer up the arriving spa guests with music. In 1817 he founded the spa chapel in the seaside resort of Elster with family members and relatives. His son Christoph Wolfgang Hilf (born September 6, 1818 in Elster; † January 1, 1912 in Bad Elster) had him accepted as a musician in the Ministry of the Interior, so that he received an annuity .

Today a street in Bad Elster is named after Johann Christoph Hilf.
