Johann Conrad Warnecke

Johann Conrad Warnecke (born March 18, 1817 in Hamburg ; † April 11, 1893 there ) was a Hamburg merchant and member of parliament.

In 1832 Warnecke began a four-year apprenticeship at the Wachsmuth & Krogmann trading house , and in 1837 he joined his father's company. The following year he did a one-year traineeship at the John Richmond company in London , which mainly traded in indigo . The following year he mainly worked in Le Havre . In 1840 he rejoined his father's company, Conrad Warnecke , a company that mainly traded in oil , stockfish and herrings . In 1845 he became a partner and after the death of his father in 1866 sole owner. He expanded the company into a wholesale company, which then also participated in the beginning petroleum trade.

From 1861 on, Warnecke was a member of the Commerzdeputation , which he headed as President in 1867. From 1868 to 1870 he acted as a commercial judge, and in 1870 and 1871 he was also a non-lawyer member of the higher court. Warnecke was a member of Hamburg's citizenship from 1859 to 1871 and from 1878 to 1883 . From 1871 until his death he was senior elder in the parish of Sankt Jacobi and in 1892 also president of the senior elders.

Johann Conrad Warnecke is commemorated on the collective grave plate Merchants (II e) of the Althamburg Memorial Cemetery, Ohlsdorf Cemetery .
