Johann Emanuel Wyss (born July 18, 1782 in Bern ; † May 31, 1837 there ) was a Swiss painter and draftsman.

Life

Johann Emanuel Wyss was born as the son of the pastor Johann David Wyss and Maria Catharina Müller. Johann Rudolf Wyss was his brother. Wyss trained as an animal and landscape painter with Johann Georg Volmar in Bern. He made around 300 ornithological sheets. However, he primarily devoted himself to heraldry . He designed stained glass, painted family trees, pedigree charts and family books. Wyss designed the book of coats of arms published in 1829 for all the families buried in the city of Bern . On the basis of a find in one of his father's pieces of furniture, he put together an extensive collection of cracked windows, which are now in the British Museum and in theBern Historical Museum .
