Johann Ernst Osiander

Johann Ernst Osiander (born June 23, 1792 in Stuttgart , † April 3, 1870 in Göppingen ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

The son of the theologian Johann Eberhard Osiander and his wife Friedericke (née Walz) attended school and grammar school in his hometown. In 1809 he moved to the University of Tübingen to study theology with Johann Friedrich Flatt (1759-1821). Here he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy in 1811 , after completing his studies he became a private tutor for the family of the senator's widow Castendyk in Bremen, became a repetiteur at the theological seminary in Tübingen in 1817 , city vicar in Stuttgart in 1819 and deacon in Metzingen in 1820.

In 1824 he was appointed second professor at the lower evangelical preacher's seminary in Maulbronn.In 1831 he was promoted to the first professor of the seminary, in 1840 he was appointed dean in Göppingen , in 1860 he received an honorary doctorate in theology from the Tübingen University and the University of Göttingen and he died in 1870 as a prelate in Göppingen.

Osiander, who also founded a child rescue center, is counted among the supranaturalist theologians who was mainly influenced by Friedrich Schleiermacher .

family

Osiander was married twice. He had married Wilhelmine Camerer (* Stuttgart; † January 23, 1823 in Maulbronn) in 1820. His second marriage was in 1824 with her sister Henriette Camerer († April 7, 1864). Both marriages had five children. A daughter and son Johann Ernst Wilhelm Osiander (born September 18, 1829 in Maulbronn; † March 21, 1864) survived the father.
