Johann Evangelist Maier

Johann Evangelist Maier (born February 18, 1833 in Hörschwag ; † August 2, 1899 in Sigmaringen ) was a Catholic clergyman and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Maier attended the Lyceum in Freiburg im Breisgau and acquired the certificate of maturity at the Hedingen grammar school in Sigmaringen. From 1856 he was engaged in pastoral care and private lessons. From 1858 he was a high school teacher at the Prussian high school Hedingen. Because of a sermon, he was in 1875 by the court to Sigmaringen to one month imprisonment sentenced. Because of this and because of his participation in the dissemination of an election call before the Reichstag elections in 1874 , he was dismissed from civil service by a resolution of the Royal Prussian State Ministry on June 18, 1876.

From 1876 to 1884 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives and from 1877 to 1884 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Sigmaringen and the German Center Party .
