The results of the Reichstag election by constituency. The numbering of the constituencies corresponds to that in the table.

The Reichstag election in 1874 was the election for the 2nd German Reichstag . It took place on January 10, 1874.

The turnout was around 61.2%, significantly higher than in the Reichstag election in 1871 .

For the first time MPs from the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine entered the Reichstag. All 15 Alsace-Lorraine constituencies were won by pro-French Alsatian-Lorraine regionalists; It was not until the Reichstag elections in 1890 that German parties also managed to win seats.

The winners of the election were the National Liberals and the Center , while the Conservative Party and the Liberal Reich Party suffered losses. With 154 seats (38.8%), the National Liberals won more seats than ever before and later won a party in a Reichstag election in the German Empire. For concern u. a. with Chancellor Otto von Bismarck , the Social Democrats did well , increasing their number of MPs from 2 to 9.

1) The Saxon constituency of Leipzig-Land was won in the main election by the Social Democrat Johann Jacoby, who, however, did not accept the mandate. The DFP candidate Karl Heine won the necessary by-election . For the numbers for the distribution of seats, the result of the by-election was assessed.

Elected MPs by constituency

In each of the 397 constituencies , a member was elected by absolute majority voting. If no candidate achieved an absolute majority in the first ballot, a runoff election was held between the two best-placed candidates. The following tables show the constituency winners and their party status as stated in the official final result.

The parliamentary groups of the 2nd Reichstag

In the 2nd Reichstag, several members of the parliament did not join the faction of their actual party and some remained non-attached. Three DHP MPs joined the center group. The nine MPs from the two social democratic parties formed a joint parliamentary group. At the beginning of the legislative period, the parliamentary groups had the following strengths:

National Liberals 150
center 94
Progress party 49
Free Conservatives 31
Old Conservatives 21st
Poland 13
Social democrats 9
Non-attached 30th

In the further course of the legislative period, the strength of the individual parliamentary groups changed several times due to by-elections and changes in parliamentary groups.
