Paul von Bojanowski (born January 24, 1834 in Schwedt , † June 19, 1915 in Weimar ) was a German journalist , librarian and writer .

Life

Bojanowski's parents were the Prussian major general Xaver von Bojanowski (1787–1856) and Rosalie, née von Knobelsdorff , sister of Ida von Lüttichau . His brother Alfred Alfons was involved in the revolution of 1848 on the side of the revolutionaries and died of injuries sustained during the fight in Berlin.

After studying law in Halle , Heidelberg and Berlin , Paul von Bojanowski passed the auscultation exam in 1856 . From 1859 to 1863 he worked as a journalist in Paris .

In 1863 he came to Weimar, where he published the "Opposition-Blatt or Weimar newspaper ", which had existed since 1817, for over 30 years. From 1893 on, he succeeded Reinhold Köhler as senior librarian until 1915 at the Duchess Anna Amalia Library (HAAB) in Weimar. In 1904 he succeeded in acquiring 17 autographs by Martin Luther for the library, and he organized a. a. the successful library exhibitions on the 100th anniversary of the death of Duchess Anna Amalia with a large number of paintings, manuscripts and books from her possession (1907) as well as book bindings (1913), in which the Weimar bookbinding history was documented for the first time.

From 1899 Bojanowski was a member of the Academy of Non-Profit Science in Erfurt . The philosophy faculty of the University of Jena awarded him an honorary doctorate on the occasion of his 80th birthday in 1914 .

From 1868 to 1871 he was a member of the state parliament of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach and from 1874 to 1877 a member of the German Reichstag for the National Liberal Party . He represented the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach 1 (Weimar - Apolda).
