Johannes Knapp

Johannes Knapp (born March 13, 1807 in Hof Gnadenthal near Dauborn ; † August 13, 1875 in Dauborn) was a landowner, owner of a brandy distillery and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Knapp was elected to the district council in 1851 and belonged to it until 1865. He was from 1851 to 1857 for deb constituency IX (Limburg) a member of the second chamber of the assembly of estates of the Duchy of Nassau . Knapp joined the liberal Nassau Progressive Party . In a by-election for Philipp Rincker , who had not accepted his mandate, he was re-elected to the chamber for constituency II (Herborn) in 1859. In 1864 the election took place in constituency II (Herborn) (which he did not accept) and in constituency XI (Runkel). He held this mandate until 1866. He was Vice President of the Chamber from 1863 to 1866. There he spoke out against a connection to Austria and for a rapprochement with Prussia.

In 1867 he became a member of the Prussian House of Representatives , to which he belonged first until 1870 and then again from 1873 until his death. In the House of Representatives he represented the constituency of Wiesbaden 8 (Oberlahnkreis). Also in 1867 he became a member of the Reichstag of the North German Confederation and initially joined the National Liberal Party , but from September 1867 belonged to the faction of the German Progressive Party in all parliaments in which he was represented . He was a member of the Customs Parliament and from 1871 until his death in 1875 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Wiesbaden 4 district (Diez, Limburg).

Johannes Knapp (his name is also given as Johann, in some cases Johann IV is also used to distinguish him from his father of the same name) was the son of the estate manager of the Gnadenthaler Hof, Johann Philipp Knapp (born January 1, 1769 in Dauborn as the son of Jacob Knapp and Eva, born Preusser, † August 4, 1832 in Gnadenthal) and his wife Elisabetha, born Wagner (marriage date: July 17, 1795 in Dauborn) (born May 15, 1768 at the Eufinger Mühle near Dauborn as the daughter of the innkeeper Johannes Wagner and his wife Juliane nee Hepp; † March 15, 1827 in Gnadenthal).

He married on October 26, 1829 in Dauborn-Eufingen Elisabethe, born Preusser (born September 25, 1807 in Eufingen; † April 16, 1867 there), the daughter of Johannes Preusser and Dorothea, born Jäger.
