action

In 227 BC BC, during the warring empires , even before the establishment of the Chinese empire, there were repeated fierce battles between the numerous small kingdoms for supremacy in the country. In one of these bloody battles between the warring armies of Liang and Wei , almost all of the soldiers fell. Only a few, like old Liang soldier Leung Kwok, survived. He had played dead with a dummy arrow and was able to escape the massacre. He notices that the hostile Crown Prince Weiguo has also survived, and he manages to take him prisoner. He intends to demand a reward for Weiguo in order to avoid further military service. However, the journey back to his army with the explosive prisoner becomes a struggle for survival for both of them, because Weiguo's brother, the Wei Prince Wen, supported by General Wu, intends to kill Weiguo in order to claim the throne himself. On the run they meet a dancer and later on impoverished homeless people, who make it clear how much the country is suffering from the ongoing wars. When they are captured by robbers from Loufan, they realize they must work together. While trying to get their hands on Weiguo, Wen kills the wife of the leader of the robbers. During the showdown in the cave in which Weiguo and Leung Kwok took refuge, Wu is killed and Wen commits suicide so that the robbers can get their revenge and spare his brother for it. In the end, Leung Kwok lets the prince go so that “at least one brother will survive”, but reminds him of his promise not to wage war against Liang again. Returning to Liang, he sees that Qin Kingdom troops have captured Liang and is shot by them.

"But apart from the final roar of agreement, the film offers consistently entertaining and lovingly designed, albeit undemanding and clichéd mainstream cinema with Asian sounds, in which the usual outtakes for Chan during the credits should not be missing."
