The district of Samland was a district in the administrative district of Königsberg from 1939 to 1945 . It was the fourth largest in East Prussia . The district office was in the city of Königsberg (Prussia). In 1939 the district, which was named after the Samland peninsula , had 120,246 inhabitants on an area of 1,923 km². On the Baltic coast there were many communities with more than 2000 inhabitants, including the Baltic seaside resorts of Cranz , Neukuhren , Palmnicken and Rauschen as well as Großheidekrug and Neuhausen .
history
On April 1, 1939, the Fischhausen district and the Königsberg i. Pr. Resolved. Parts of both districts were incorporated into the city of Königsberg:
- parts of the communities Goldschmiede, Trankwitz and Wargen as well as the community Tannenwalde from the district of Fischhausen
- from the district of Königsberg (Pr) parts of the communities Adlig Neuendorf , Altenberg , Godrienen , Almonds, Palmburg , Wundlacken and Ziegelau as well as the communities Beydritten, Charlottenburg, Haffstrom , Lauth , Metgethen , Moditten, Prappeln , Quednau , Schönfließ , Seligenfeld , Stiegehnen and the Fresh Lagoon Manor.
The remaining communities were merged to form the new Samland district with the district office in Königsberg. In the spring of 1945 the district was occupied by the Red Army and then part of the Soviet Union .
Administrative division
The district of Samland included on January 1, 1945
- the two cities of Fischhausen (today Primorsk ) and Pillau (today Baltijsk )
- 191 other communities, including the Baltic resort of Cranz with 5000 inhabitants
- and four estate districts (Haff and Nehrungs shares).
