Mendelejewo ( Russian Менделеево , German  Poggenpfuhl ) is a place in the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad . It belongs to the municipal self-government unit of the Guryevsk District in Guryevsk Raion .

Geographical location

Mendelejewo is 17 kilometers northeast of the city of Kaliningrad (Königsberg) on a side road that leads from Jaroslawskoje (Schönwalde) to Antonowka (municipal road 27K-416). In town, the municipal road 27K-342 from the regional road 27A-024 (ex A190 ) ends at Perwomaiskoje (Kuggen) . The nearest train station is the Ostanowotschny point (Op = stop) Bajewka (Kuikeim) ( called Kuggen until 1945 ) on the Kaliningrad – Sowetsk railway line (Königsberg – Tilsit) .

history

The village, called Poggenpfuhl until 1946, became the eponymous place and administrative seat of the newly established district of Poggenpfuhl on April 30, 1874 . Until 1939 it belonged to the district of Königsberg (Prussia) , from 1939 to 1945 to the district of Samland in the administrative district of Königsberg in the Prussian province of East Prussia . The administrative district included the villages of Brasdorf (today in Russian: Antonowka), Kuggen -Waldhaus (Perwomaiskoje) and Poggenpfuhl itself.

On December 1, 1910, 272 inhabitants were registered in Poggenpfuhl. The community expanded on November 15, 1928 to the neighboring estate district Kuggen (Perwomaiskoje), which was incorporated. The number of inhabitants rose to 482 by 1933 and was 462 in 1939.

In 1945 Poggenpfuhl came to the Soviet Union due to its location in northern East Prussia . In 1947 the place received the Russian name Mendelejewo and was assigned at the same time to the village soviet Jaroslawski selski Sowet in Gurjewsk Rajon . Later the place came to the Kosmodemjanski selski Sowet . From 2008 to 2013 Mendelejewo belonged to the rural municipality Dobrinskoje selskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district of Guryevsk.

In Poggenpfuhl, the majority of the population was of the Protestant denomination until 1945 . The village was then in the parish Schönwalde (Russian Today: Jaroslawskoje) the parish and belonged to the church district Königsberg Country II within the ecclesiastical province of East Prussia the Prussian Union of churches .
