from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Evangelical Lutheran Propstei Kaliningrad is one of twelve church districts of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia (ELKER) in the network of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Central Asia (ELKRAS). It has its seat in Kaliningrad (formerly Königsberg (Prussia) ).

Geographical location

The provost of Kaliningrad is located in the former Northeast Prussia in what is now Kaliningrad Oblast in the federal district of Northwestern Russia of the Russian Federation . It covers the entire oblast area.

history

Until 1945 what was then Königsberg (Prussia) was the seat of the consistory of the church province of East Prussia, which encompassed all of East Prussia, of the Protestant Church of the Old Prussian Union . With the beginning of the Soviet administration and the flight and expulsion of the local population living here, church life almost completely came to a standstill.

It was only after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990/91 that some of the Germans who remained here, as well as the first Germans from Russia, gathered for regular, albeit improvised, church services, including in the regional hospital and the “Pobeda” cinema. More and more parishioners came, who came as refugees and resettlers from Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan , Uzbekistan , Moldova , the Volga , the Urals , Siberia and others. They had maintained a modest parish life in their surroundings in secret and at great risk and found here - initially unstructured - as parishes in Kaliningrad and in various cities and villages in the oblast.

With the support of the Gustav-Adolf-Werk in Saxony , the North Elbian Church , the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), the Community of Evangelical East Prussia (GEO) as well as numerous church congregations and financial individual sponsors, a structured community development with today eight pastors with officials was achieved Russia and Germany. The services are mostly bilingual, but increasingly in Russian.
