Valdon Dowiyogo

Valdon Kape Dowiyogo (born August 31, 1968 in Nauru , † December 8, 2016 in Russia ) was a Nauru Australian football player and was President of the Nauru Australian Football Association (NAFA) until 1999 . He was also director of the post office in Nauru and vice president of the Nauru Golf Club . He was the son of former head of state Bernard Dowiyogo .

After primary education in Nauru and Tullamarine, he received secondary education in Hamilton , Victoria , Australia , at Monivae College , where he also played football. He previously played in the U14 and U16 teams of the Tullamarine Football Club . There he was vice-captain of the U16s in 1984 and won the club's best player award. In 1987 he returned to Nauru and was active in the national championship from 1988.

Dowiyogo took part in 1995 with the national team in the Arafura Games in Darwin . He later played in the national championship for Ubenited Power .

In the parliamentary elections in May 2003, he ran for his constituency of Ubenide as a candidate. Like his brother, Jesaulenko Dowiyogo , he narrowly missed entry into parliament in Yaren . In the early elections in October 2004, however, Dowiyogo reached fourth place in the Ubenide constituency and was thus elected Member of Parliament. His brother did not run as a candidate.

On December 21, 2004, Dowiyogo was elected as the new speaker of parliament, replacing the late Vassal Gadoengin . He was confirmed in office on August 28, 2007. In 2013 he became Minister of Fisheries, Health, Sports and Transport, an office he held until his sudden death during a political visit to Russia.
