Lesnoje ( Russian Лесное , German  Warnicken ) is a place in the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad . The place belongs to local self-government unit Stadtkreis Swetlogorsk in svetlogorsky district .

Geographical location

Lesnoye is 37 kilometers northwest of the Oblast capital Kaliningrad (Königsberg) and six kilometers west of the Baltic city of Swetlogorsk (Rauschen) on the regional road 27A-013 (ex A192 ). Via Aralskoye (Alexwangen) there is a direct connection to the Primorskoye Kolzo (coastal motorway ring), which is still being developed .

Warnicken was the terminus of the Samland Railway for a long time before 1945 , while the line to Groß Dirschkeim (now Russian: Donskoje) was still being built during the Second World War , and the station was named Ostanowotschny Punkt (Op) 53 km on the railway line coming from Kaliningrad, which is no longer in operation.

The village, called Warnicken until 1946 , was founded in 1405. The area around Warnicken is known and loved to this day for its natural beauties: the high, rugged and almost vertically sloping coastal walls with the Wolfsschlucht in the eastern section , the longest and most impressive notch on the north beach with the viewpoint of the Jägerspitze , with the Fuchsschlucht to the east and the fox tip, whose view u. a. King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. And Alexander von Humboldt enjoyed and praised.

Warnicken belonged to an estate and a chief forester, which was mentioned as early as 1713 as the seat of a wilderness worker. Between 1874 and 1930, the town District village and its name to the newly erected was the district of the county Fischhausen in the administrative district of Konigsberg the Prussian province of East Prussia . In 1910 the Warnicken forest estate had 237 inhabitants. On January 26, 1893, two establishments of the Warnicken Forst estate were reclassified to the Neukuhren district (today in Russian: Pionerski): Herrenwalde (no longer existent today) came to Lopphnen (Russian: Rybnoje, no longer existed), and Kohnkenhof (also perished) after Prussian Battau (until 1910: Klein Battau, Russian: Dobroje, no longer existent). On December 1, 1928, Warnicken lost its independence and was incorporated into Georgenswalde (today in Russian: Otradnoje). On May 18, 1930, the Warnicken administrative district was renamed "Georgenswalde district", which existed until 1945 - from 1939 onwards it belonged to the Samland district .

As a result of the Second World War , Warnicken came to the Soviet Union with northern East Prussia in 1945 and at an unknown point in time was given the Russian name "Lesnoje". As a result, the place was (apparently) mostly administered from the Primorye urban-type settlement . Lesnoye has been part of the Svetlogorsk district since 2018 .

The mostly Protestant population of Warnickens belonged to the parish of the parish church in Sankt Lorenz (today Russian: Salskoje), which was in the parish of Fischhausen (Primorsk) within the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . When the city of Rauschen became independent as a parish (under the umbrella organization of Sankt Lorenz) in 1929, Warnicken was part of its catchment area.

Today Lesnoje is assigned to the extensive Evangelical-Lutheran church district of the Church of the Resurrection in Kaliningrad, which was newly created in the 1990s . It is the main church of the Kaliningrad provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia .
