The Rajon is located in the north of the Samland on the Baltic Sea . Practically (but not actually) it consists of two parts separated by the Zelenogradsk Raion . The eastern part borders the Baltic Sea in the north, the Pionersky district in the east and the Zelenogradsk district in the south, while the western part lies between the Baltic Sea in the west and the Zelenogradsk district in the east and also has a short shared border with the Jantarny district in the south Has.

history

The city of Svetlogorsk (Rauschen) was spun off from what was then Primorsk Raion (now Zelenogradsk Raion ) on July 25, 1947 as a rajon-free city administered by a city soviet. On January 12, 1965, the town of Pionerski (Neukuhren) and the Soviets of the workers' settlements of Primorje (Groß Kuhren) and Jantarny (Palmnicken) were also subordinated to the Svetlogorsk City Soviet (so-called Svetlogorsk spa-industrial zone, ru. Светлогорская куныноронорананкунороронаранкуророронарана. Svetlogorskaya kurortno-promyslennaya sona). On March 22, 1993, the city of Pionerski was detached from this association and independent within the oblast.

On April 15, 1994 the (remaining) association was transformed into the city district of Svetlogorsk (Светлогорский городской округ, Svetlogorski gorodskoi okrug). In 1998 and 1999, the municipal self-government units "Yantarny Settlement" and "Svetlogorsk District" were established on the territory of the Svetlogorsk District. In 2004 the municipal self-government unit "Yantarny Settlement" received the status of urban district, and in 2007 the municipal self-government unit "Svetlogorsk District" received the status of "municipal" district, which was designated as "Svetlogorsk district"; local self-government was extended to the local level and the three urban municipalities Donskoye , Primorye and Svetlogorsk were established. In 2010 the Svetlogorsk Raion was also established administratively and territorially and at the same time the administrative-territorial detachment of the Jantarny district took place . In 2018 the local self-government of the (administrative-territorial) Svetlogorsk Raion was reorganized as an urban district.
