The Polessk Raion ( Russian Полесский район ) is located in the center of Russia 's Kaliningrad Oblast . It is bounded to the north by the Curonian Lagoon .

Within the framework of local self-government, the (administrative-territorial) Rajon consists of an urban district whose administrative seat is the small town of Polessk (formerly Labiau ). The rural Rajon is traversed by the Dejma ( Deime ), a tributary of the Pregel . At Polessk the Polesski Canal ( Großer Friedrichsgraben ) branches off, which creates a navigable connection between the Pregel and the Memel and flows through the Großer Moosbruch . The main livelihoods of the population are fishing and agriculture , which are mostly organized on a cooperative basis .

Local self-government

On the territory of Polessk district there is the municipal self-government unit of the Polessk District (ru. Полесский городской округ, Polesski gorodskoi okrug) with the city of Polessk and the other 66 settlements located on the territory of the district.

The section from Kaliningrad to Polessk is the regional road 27A-026 (ex A190 ), which also passes through the Turgenevo municipal seat . Four kilometers before Polessk, the regional road 27A-036 (ex R512 ) branches off to the Rajon town of Gwardeisk . The section from Polessk to Bolshakovo in Slavsk Raion , regional road 27A-034, passes through the municipal offices of Sosnovka and Zalessye . The main route to Sovetsk is reached in Bolshakovo.

history

The Rajon was founded on April 7, 1946 as Labiauski rajon . It was the successor to the Labiau district , which existed until 1945, but was reduced in size to include Lauknen (1938 to 1945 "Hohenbruch"), Mehlauken (1938 to 1945 "Liebenfelde") and Popelken (1938 to 1945 "Markthausen"). From the end of May 1946, the “Administration for civil affairs of the Labiau Rajon” (ru. Управление по гражданским делам Лабиауского района, Uprawlenie po graschdanski delam Labiaus) was responsible for the Rajon. On September 7, 1946, the city of Labiau was renamed Polessk and the Rajon in Polesski rajon . When the village was divided into village soviets in the summer of 1947, the town of Nautzken was also spun off into Gurjewsk Rajon .

In the summer of 1947 was to manage the Rajons Executive Committee of the Polessker Rajonsowjets of deputies of working people appointed (ru Исполнительный комитет Полесского районного Совета депутатов трудящихся, Ispolnitelny komitet Polesskowo rajonowo Soweta Deputatov trudjaschtschichsja; short. Полесский Райисполком, Polesski Rajispolkom). From 1963 to 1965, the rural areas of Gwardeisk Raion belonged to Polessk Raion during a brief general administrative reform . In 1965 the place Salessje (Mehlauken) was "re-incorporated" into the Rajon. In 1977, in the name of the district administration, the term “workers' deputies” was replaced by “people's deputies” (ru. Народных депутатов, narodnych deputatow). After the collapse of the Soviet Union , in 1991 the Rajon administration was renamed Administration of Polessk Raion (ru. Администрация Полесского района, Administrazija Polesskowo rajona).

In 1997, the Polessk Raion Municipal Self-Government Unit was established on the territory of Polessk Raion . In 2004 this administrative unit got the status of a city district (ru. Полесский городской округ, Polesski gorodskoi okrug). However, the Polessk district was rejected by the judiciary. As a result, this administrative unit was given the status of a "municipal" Rajon in 2008 and was referred to as Munizipaler Rajon Polessk ; In this, the communal self-government was expanded to the local level and the existing six village districts were converted into four rural communities. In 2017 the local self-government was (again) organized as an urban district .
