The Gvardeysky District ( Russian Гвардейский район ) in the Kaliningrad Oblast , Russia , located in the center of the area east of the regional capital Kaliningrad . It is one of the more densely populated rajons in the oblast. Within the framework of local self-government, the (administrative-territorial) Rajon consists of an urban district whose administrative center is Gwardeisk (formerly Tapiau ).

The Rajon is traversed by the Pregel River and its tributary Dejma ( Deime ). Parallel to the Pregel runs railway line Kaliningrad Moscow and the highway-like -developed road Kaliningrad Talpaki -Moscow / Saint Petersburg . The main livelihood of the population is agriculture , which - as is usually the case in the oblast - is organized as a cooperative.

Local self-government

The Gwardeisk City District (ru. Гвардейский городской округ, Gwardeiski gorodskoi okrug) with the city of Gwardeisk and 61 other settlements (ru. Possjolok) has existed on the territory of Gwardeisk Raion since 2014 .

history

The Rajon was founded on April 7, 1946 as Tapiauski rajon . The name referred to the small town of Tapiau, which until 1945 was in the Wehlau district , which this Rajon succeeded to. The district town of Wehlau, from 1947 Russian Znamensk , had been badly destroyed in the Second World War, so that it was preferred to install the district administration in the less destroyed Tapiau. Responsible for the Rajon from the end of May 1946 was initially the administration for civil affairs of the Tapiau Rajon (ru. Управление по гражданским делам Тапиауского района, Uprawlenie po graschdanski delam Tapiauskow). On September 7, 1946, the city of Tapiau was renamed Gwardeisk and the Rajon in Gwardeiski rajon .

On June 21, 1947, was to manage the Rajons Executive Committee of the Gwardeisker Rajonsowjets of deputies of working people appointed (ru Исполнительный комитет Гвардейского районного Совета депутатов трудящихся, Ispolnitelny komitet Gwardeiskowo rajonowo Soweta Deputatov trudjaschtschichsja; short. Гвардейский Райисполком, Gwardeiski Rajispolkom). When the village soviets were established in June / July 1947, the former small town of Allenburg, now called Druzhba , was assigned to Pravdinsk Rajon . The place Znamensk now only had the status of a workers' settlement .

In 1959, the place Komsomolsk (Löwenhagen) and its surroundings were added from the dissolved Kaliningrad Raion . From 1963 to 1965, during a brief general administrative reform, the city of Gwardeisk was free of rajons and the rural areas of the Raion were attached to the Polessk Raion . In 1977 the term “the workers' deputies” was replaced by “the people's deputies” in the name of the district administration (ru. Народных депутатов, narodnych deputatow).

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , in 1992 the district administration was renamed the Administration of Gwardeisk Raion (ru. Администрация Гвардейского района, Administrazija Gwardeiskowo rajona). In 1998, the Gwardeisk Raion Municipal Self-Government Unit was established in the Gwardeisk Raion territory . In 2005 this administrative unit was given the status of a "municipal" Rajons; In this, the communal self-government was expanded to the local level and the existing five village districts were converted into four rural communities. The place Znamensk lost its status as an urban type settlement and became the seat of a rural community. In 2014 the local self-government was organized as an urban district.
