The Bagrationovsk Raion ( Russian Багратио́новский райо́н ) in the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad is located in the southwest of the Oblast. Within the framework of local self-government, the (administrative-territorial) Rajon consists of an urban district whose administrative seat is the small town of Bagrationowsk (Prussian Eylau) .

Geographical location

The Bagrationovsk Raion is located south of the city of Kaliningrad directly on the border with Poland and is very sparsely populated.

Two roads run through the Rajon between the Russian exclave and Poland, namely the two regional roads 27A-003 (ex R 516 ) and 27A-018 (ex A 195 ), as well as the two railway lines Kaliningrad – Mamonowo and Kaliningrad – Bagrationovsk .

The most important body of water is the Prochladnaja (Frisching) river , which flows into the Fresh Lagoon in Gurjewsk Rajon near Uschakowo (Brandenburg) .

Local self-government

On the territory of Bagrationovsk district there is the municipal self-government unit of the Bagrationovsk district (ru. Багратионовский городской округ, Bagrationowski gorodskoi okrug) with the city of Bagrationovsk and the other 87 settlements on the territory of the district.

partnership

The Rajon maintains a partnership with the Verden district in Lower Saxony .

history

The Rajon was founded on April 7, 1946 as Kroizburgski rajon in succession to the northern part of the Prussian Eylau district, which existed in the Soviet Union as a result of the Second World War, until 1945 . In the years 1818/19 it was briefly called the Kreuzburg district . The former city of Kreuzburg, from 1947 Russian Slavskoye , was almost completely destroyed in the final battles of World War II. The administration for civil affairs of the Kreuzburg Rajon in Preussisch Eylau (ru.

On September 7, 1946, the city of Preussisch Eylau was renamed Bagrationowsk and the Rajon in Bagrationowski rajon . In the summer of 1947 the Rajons which was to manage the Executive Committee of Bagrationowsker Rajonsowjets of deputies of working people appointed (ru Исполнительный комитет Багратионовского районного Совета депутатов трудящихся, Ispolnitelny komitet Bagrationowskowo rajonowo Soweta Deputatov trudjaschtschichsja; short. Багратионовский Райисполком, Bagrationowski Rajispolkom). In 1977 the term “the workers' deputies” was replaced by “the people's deputies” (ru. Народных депутатов, narodnych deputatow).

On July 25, 1947, the northern part of the Rajon was annexed to the newly established Kaliningrad Rajon . On April 27, 1959, parts of the re-dissolved Kaliningrad Raion came back in an expanded form to the Bagrationovsk Raion and on December 12, 1962, the Ladushkin Raion was attached. This also brought the two other cities of Laduschkin (Ludwigsort) and Mamonowo (Heiligenbeil) to the Rajon. At that time, the Rajon reached in the north to the city of Kaliningrad and the Pregel River . On January 12, 1965, the northernmost part of the Rajon was annexed to the Guryevsk Rajon .

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the administrative body was renamed Administration of Bagrationovsk Raion in 1992 (ru. Администрация Багратионовского района, Administrazija Bagrationowskowo rajona). In 1997 and 1999, the three municipal self-government units of the City of Ladushkin , City of Mamonovo and Bagrationovsk Raion were established on the territory of Bagrationovsk Raion . In 2004, these administrative units were each given the status of an urban district (ru. Городской округ, Gorodskoi okrug). The Bagrationovsk district was rejected by the judiciary. As a result, this administrative unit got the status of a "municipal" Rajons in 2008 and was called Municipal Rajon Bagrationovsk (ru. Багратионовский муниципальный район, Bagrationowski munizipalny rajon); local self-government was expanded to the local level and the existing eleven village districts were converted into four rural communities. In 2010, the Laduschkin urban district and the Mamonowo urban district were also spun off from Bagrationovsk Raion in administrative and territorial terms. In 2017, Bagrationovsk Raion's municipal self-government was (again) organized as an urban district .

Presumably to distinguish it from the village soviet Lugowski in Nesterow district, this village soviet name was emphasized on the final syllable, as the only one in the Kaliningrad Oblast.
