Severny ( Russian Северный ) is a place in the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad and belongs to the rural municipality Niwenskoje in Bagrationovsk Raion .
Geographical location
Severny is located 20 kilometers north of the district town of Bagrationowsk (Prussian Eylau) in the north of the former Jesau air base and east of the regional road 27A-018 (ex A 195 ). The nearest train station is the Vladimirovo (Tharau) station on the Kaliningrad – Bagrationovsk railway line , which is, however, located in Niwenskoye .
history
The place was set up after the Second World War in connection with the Aerodrom "Niwenskoje" (Аэродром "Нивенское") air base, the former Jesau air base, initially under the name Sovkhos Juschny . From this name it can perhaps be concluded that the place was initially set up to provide food for the military personnel stationed in Yuzhny . The renaming in Severny (German north) was apparently carried out in analogy to Juschny (German south) in relation to the runways of the air force base.
