Schirokoje ( Russian Широкое , German Strobehnen and Storchnest, Prussian Eylau district ) is the common name of two originally independent places in the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast ( Königsberg area (Prussia) ). They belong to the Dologorukowskoje selskoje posselenije (rural community Dolgorukowo (Domtau) ) in the Bagrationowsk district ( Prussian Eylau district ).

Geographical location

Schirokoje is located in the Russian-Polish border area west of Bagrationowsk (Prussian Eylau) on a side road that connects the Rajons capital with Dolgorukowo (Domtau) and continues to Pogranitschnoje (Hussehnen) . Until 1945 there was a connection to the railway line from Heiligenbeil (Mamonowo) via Zinten (Kornewo) to Bagrationowsk via the Stablack station (now also in Russian: Dolgorukowo) , which has now only been used for military purposes or has been completely shut down.

Sirokoje / stork's nest

Three kilometers from Bagrationowsk (Prussian Eylau) is the small village formerly called Storchnest , which is often confused with the place of the same name (now in Polish: Mokajmy) in the Prussian Holland district . The mentioned herein Storchnest but belonged until 1945 to the district Preußisch Eylau in the administrative district of Konigsberg the Prussian province of East Prussia and was (in 1928 District in the District Henriettenhof 1874 Althof Russian (: Orekhovo)) incorporated.
