Cholmy ( Russian Холмы , German nobleman Popelken ) is a place in the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Gvardeysk in Gvardeysky District .
Geographical location
Cholmy is located 15 kilometers northwest of the city of Gwardeisk (Tapiau) on the federal road A229 (also Europastraße 77 , former German Reichsstraße 1 ). At the village there is a branch in the north to Malinowka (Biothen and Podewitten) . There is no train connection. Until 1945 Podewitten (Malinowka) was the next train station on the Tapiau – Possinder (- Königsberg) (Russian: Gwardeisk– Roschtschino (- Kaliningrad )) of the Wehlau – Friedlander Kreisbahnen .

Of to 1946 the founding date nobleman Popelken mentioned Gutsdorfes exists 1417. In 1874, the place in the newly formed was District Kremitten (now Russian: Losowoje) incorporated, which until 1945 the county Wehlau in the administrative district of Konigsberg the Prussian province of East Prussia belonged. On December 1, 1910 Noble Popelken had 179 inhabitants.
On September 30, 1928, the manor district Adlig Popelken lost its independence and was incorporated into the rural community of Biothen (today in Russian: Malinowka). Between March 22, 1929 and July 23, 1929 the village came to Heiligenwalde (today in Russian: Uschakowo), only to be assigned to Biothen again from July 24, 1929.
In 1945 Adlig Popelken came to the Soviet Union with northern East Prussia . In 1947 the place was given the Russian name "Cholmy" and was assigned at the same time to the village soviet Golovenski selski Sowet (Willkühnen) in Gwardeisk Rajon . 1954 came the place in the Borski selski Sowet . From 2005 to 2014 Cholmy belonged to the rural municipality of Slavinskoje selskoje posselenije and since then to the urban district of Gwardeisk.

The majority Protestant population of Nobleman Popelken until 1945 was parish in the parish of the Kremitten Church (today Russian: Losowoje). It belonged to the church district Wehlau (Snamensk) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . Today Cholmy is located in the catchment area of the newly established Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Gwardeisk (Tapiau) , a branch congregation of the Resurrection Church in Kaliningrad (Königsberg) in the Kaliningrad provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia .
