Rottenau is a district of Möckern in the Jerichower Land district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The village is 2.5 km southeast of Loburg , on the river Ehle , a tributary of the Elbe . A 105 hectare nature reserve (NSG) called Bürgerholz bei Rosian extends to the eastern edge of the village. This NSG is also an FFH area with the same name, to protect the alluvial forests that can be found here with transitions to English oak and hornbeam forests in a complex with streams.

history

Until the 441 hectare Rottenau estate was confiscated by the Red Army in 1945, it belonged to the Bobert family. After it had initially been operated as an army auxiliary economy , it was returned in December 1945 and leased to the Anhaltische Serum-Institut GmbH Dessau (ASID) as a provincial property (later a state-owned property ) and used as a serum production facility.

The German Democratic Republic (DDR) operation here since 1960, the Institute of poultry farming the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR in Berlin. For various research projects and investigations, the numerous stable systems in the town itself and in the surrounding area were used by the formerly state- owned industrial mast (VE KIM) Möckern.

Until it was incorporated on January 1, 2009, the village was a district of the city of Loburg, today it is also a district of the city of Möckern.

Personalities

  • Heinz Röhrer (1905–1992), veterinarian and virologist, headed the Rottenau production facility of the Serum Works in Dessau, which emerged from the Anhaltisches Serum-Institut Dessau (ASID) from 1946–1948
