history

From the first written evidence from 1282 to 1459, the place was always mentioned as Calditz. The ending -itz indicates Slavic origins, so that it can be assumed that a Slavic settlement existed here before the 11th century. The place name Calitzsch appeared around 1700, before today's place name became established in the 19th century. In the 13th century belonged Kalitz than Kirchdorf the archbishopric of Magdeburg and was in 1292 by Archbishop Erich the Lehnin given. In 1457 the place became the property of the noble von Barby family, who lived in Loburg . In 1770 Major Friedrich Gustav von Barby sold the manor to Erich von Münchhausen from the Neuhaus-Leitzkau line. The Münchhausen family owned a manor in Kalitz until they were expropriated in 1945. When the Archdiocese of Magdeburg was secularized after the Thirty Years War, Kalitz came under Brandenburg-Prussian supremacy. With the Prussian administrative reform of 1815, it was subordinated to the district of Jerichow I as an independent, independent manor district . The Kalitz manor district had 99 inhabitants in 1910. On October 17, 1928, the Kalitz manor district was merged with the neighboring Brietzke manor district (without the exclave at Loburg) to form a rural municipality of Brietzke-Kalitz. In 1933 the community had 292 inhabitants. Already at the beginning of the 20th century Kalitz got its own railway connection and became the crossing point of the small railway lines Loburg - Gommern and Kalitz - Göbel. During the GDR period, Brietzke-Kalitz was initially assigned to the Loburg district , and from 1957 to the Zerbst district. On January 1, 1974, the community was incorporated into Zeppernick . On July 1, 2007, both parts of the community came to the city of Möckern as districts.

buildings

The Evangelical Church of Kalitz is at the western entrance to the village. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century as a rectangular hall made of field stones. Large arched windows are set into the longest walls. Over the west gable rises on the tile-covered gabled roof a plastered skylights, a welsche hood carries an open lantern. A flat ceiling framed with stucco spans the interior. Most of the furnishings are baroque in character. The cheeks of the chairs are adorned with rustic flower paintings, the pulpit altar is provided with wooden surrounds on the left and right, and a cloud halo above the pulpit. The paintings on the multi-sided pulpit represent the crucifixion scene and the four evangelists . Below is a painting depicting the Last Supper .
