Magdeburgerforth is a village and a district of Möckern in the district of Jerichower Land in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The place is on the state border with Brandenburg in the northern area of the High Fläming . The Möckern-Magdeburgerforth conservation area extends southwest of the village.

history

In 1555 the place appeared for the first time in a document. The name suggests a ford along the Heerstraße Brandenburg – Magdeburg over the Gloine , which flows north to the Fiener Bruch . The area around Magdeburgerforth is very wooded and until a hundred years ago it was one of the most remote corners of Prussia. During the Thirty Years' War the area was deserted and was only repopulated under Frederick the Great .

In 1847 Magdeburgerforth was listed in the "Topographical-Statistical Handbook of the Prussian State". The village had a forest ranger's office , a water mill, 32 houses and 285 souls.

In 1896, three narrow-gauge small train lines (gauge 750 mm) were built around Magdeburgerforth, which met at Magdeburgerforth station . The first train from Burg reached Magdeburgerforth on April 4, 1896. The lines of the small railways of the Jerichow I (KJI) district ran west to Burg (via Grabow ), northeast to Ziesar and south to Gommern via Groß Lübars and Altengrabow . Traffic on these routes was discontinued between 1960 and 1965, the last train left Magdeburgerforth on September 25, 1965. The traditional association KJI e. V. plans to rebuild the dismantled line from Altengrabow to Magdeburgerforth. On May 7, 2011 the museum was opened on the 800 m long route between Magdeburgerforth and the Hp. Lumpenbahnhof.

A few kilometers south of the village is the approximately 80 km² military training area Altengrabow .

On September 30, 1928, the Magdeburgerfort manor district was united with the municipality of Magdeburgerforth, with the exception of the forestry farms , which were combined with the neighboring communities of the same name.

In the course of the municipal reorganization of Saxony-Anhalt, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into the city of Möckern with effect from July 2, 2009. The last mayor before the incorporation was Christiane Werner.

politics

The local mayor is Rüdiger Claus.

Since July 2, 2009, the village has been managed as a district by the local council and the local mayor.
Current distribution of seats in the local council:
four seats, community of voters for the Magdeburgerforth volunteer fire brigade,
three seats of community of voters, Heimatverein “Gloinetal”.

coat of arms

Blazon : "Split of gold and green with a grafted silver tip, in front a green oak branch with two leaves, behind a golden post horn placed after the split with the bell pointing upwards to the left, the tip covered with a blue wavy bar."

The colors of the place are: green - gold (yellow).

The coat of arms symbolism in the coat of arms shown here refers to the following conditions:

  • on the location of the community in Hohen Fläming and on the edge of the Möckern-Magdeburgerforth nature reserve. The natural surroundings were once formed by dense forests and forestry was an important source of income for the population. This is what the oak leaves suggest.
  • to the fact that the region with its rich game population was once an electoral hunting ground and the historically significant Poststrasse between Potsdam and Magdeburg affected the place and influenced its development. This symbolizes the post horn.
  • and the Gloine brook, where the place is located and which was previously important for water extraction, irrigation, etc. In the coat of arms, the gloine is expressed by the blue wavy bar in the base of the shield.

On April 22, 2008 the local council decided to use these elements in the new coat of arms of the community. The coat of arms was designed by the local heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and approved by the district on July 4th, 2008.

flag

The flag is green - yellow (1: 1) striped (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the coat of arms.
