Theeßen is a town and part of Möckern in the Jerichower Land district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Theeßen is a rural place. While it is only 14 kilometers to the district town of Burg (near Magdeburg) via the state road 52, the city center of Möckern is 19 kilometers to the south and can only be reached via subordinate district roads. Theeßen is very conveniently located supraregionally with the Theeßen junction of the A 2 motorway just 1.5 kilometers south-east . The place is located in the middle of the Möckern-Magdeburgerforth nature reserve , surrounded by the forests of the Stresower Heide and the Wüstenjerichow Forest, which only open up a small area of agricultural land around the village. Theeßen is at a height of 57 meters, but the 96.7 meter high Große Ziegelberg rises four kilometers to the southeast.

In addition to the district of Theeßen, the district of Räckendorf belongs to the village of the same name .

history

The place is first mentioned in 1296. In 1368 it was called Thesen, but in the same century place names Thiezzin, Thesin, Teczin were also used. When it came into the possession of Arnim auf Crüssau in 1509, the place was named Tetzem, in 1562 the church village of Tessen was mentioned. Arnim auf Crüssau built a manor in the village, which existed as an independent institution next to the actual village until 1928. Located on the Heerstraße to Genthin , the place was able to develop favorably, but also suffered the negative effects of troops passing through in times of war. The Thirty Years War with its troop occupations and the subsequent epidemics and famines caused the village population to shrink by half. Until the end of the war, Theeßen was under the rule of the Magdeburg Archdiocese. After its secularization , Brandenburg-Prussia exercised state rule. In the course of the Prussian administrative reform of 1815, the place was subordinated to the district of Jerichow I with the district town of Burg. In 1896 the small railway line Burg - Magdeburgerforth was opened with a train station in Theeßen. It was in operation until 1965. The population of Theeßen community was 235 in 1910, plus the legally independent manor district with 58 people. The manor district of Theeßen was united with the rural community of Theeßen on September 30, 1928. By 1939 the number of inhabitants rose to 404. When territorial reform took place in the GDR in 1952, Theeßen became part of the Burg district. In 1964 there were 474 inhabitants in the community. After the political change in 1990 it was assigned to the district of Jerichow. On October 16, 2007, a new motorway maintenance depot was put into operation on the A 2. On January 19, 2008 Theeßen lost its communal independence and was incorporated into the town of Möckern. The village of Räckendorf, which up until then belonged to Theeßen, about four kilometers to the south, became an independent district at the same time. The last mayor was Elle Sommerfeld.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved by the district on November 29, 2007.

Blazon : "Argent, a green yew branch with five red fruits, down at an oblique red shield the golden Huguenot cross."

The coat of arms makes reference to two essential and formative factors - to the Slavic stem, which means yew or refers to the yew and to the immigration of the Huguenots , who stimulated the economy of the place and the region extraordinarily. Their symbol was the so-called Huguenot Cross . On October 8, 2007, the municipal council decided in a discussion to use this coat of arms and submit it for approval.

The Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch took on the design of the coat of arms.

The Evangelical Church of Theeßen was built from field stones and consists of a nave, a narrower choir room attached to the east , which is adjoined by a semicircular apse . A square roof turret was placed over the west gable in 1748, which was executed in half-timbered construction. He carries a six-sided lantern with a curly hood. The interior of the church is closed with a flat wooden ceiling, the choir is separated by a triumphal arch . The octagonal sandstone baptismal font is of Gothic origin, the wooden pulpit altar is from the Baroque period . A coat of arms on the altar and a figural tombstone from 1584 commemorate the former von Arnim family.
