Life and assassination
Josef Ettenreich was the son of an innkeeper of the same name. He first became a butcher and later traded in oats, which made him rich. In 1845 he retired into private life. On February 18, 1853, as was his custom, he went for a walk to the Kärntnertor Bastion . He witnessed how the tailor János Libényi tried to stab the emperor.
