Maximilian O'Donell from Tyrconell
Maximilian Karl Lamoral Count O'Donell von Tyrconell (born October 29, 1812 at Goldegg Castle near Salzburg, † July 14, 1895 in Salzburg ) was an Imperial and Royal Chamberlain and Lieutenant Field Marshal .
Maximilian was born in 1812 to Moritz O'Donell , Count of Tyrconel (1780–1843). In 1830 he joined the Austrian army and rose to the rank of colonel . In 1848 he fought in Italy, in 1849 in Hungary and then became a wing adjutant to Emperor Franz Joseph . With his presence of mind, he saved the emperor's life on February 18, 1853 when he was assassinated by the tailor János Libényi and was allowed to build a villa next to the Salzburg Mirabell Gardens . In the summer of 1859 he retired, but remained a wing adjutant.
He died in his villa on Mirabellplatz and was buried at the Salzburg municipal cemetery. However, the tomb no longer exists.
In the Heldenberg memorial near Kleinwetzdorf in Lower Austria, O'Donell is immortalized with a bust in a special place of honor because of his heroic deed, the rescue of the emperor, right next to the bust of Josef Ettenreich , a Viennese butcher who, as a passerby who happened to be present, played a key role in the Overpowering the assassin was involved.
