Schweinitz is a village and part of Möckern in the Jerichower Land district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Schweinitz is 8 kilometers east of Loburg and 38 kilometers east of Magdeburg . The Schweinitzer Hütten settlement, one kilometer east of the main town, belongs to the village . By far the largest part of the district belongs to the Altengrabow military training area , which is within sight of the location in the north and east. Neighboring towns are Altengrabow in the north, Hohenlobbese and Reppinichen in the east, Zipsdorf and Nedlitz in the south, and Rosian , Loburg and Lübars in the west.

The highest elevation in the district is almost six kilometers north of the village, 116  m above sea level. NHN high place mountain . It is the third highest altitude in the district of Jerichower Land and lies on the watershed line running east-west between the Havel in the north and the Elbe in the south. North of the Platzberg, still in the Schweinitz district but already in the catchment area of the Havel, is the source area of the Gloinebach . The Elbe tributary Ehle rises southeast of the Schweinitzer Hütten settlement .

Framed on three sides by the forests of the Fläming , only in the west of the district are agricultural areas with moderate soil quality. The place belongs to the western Fläming plateau , a heather and grassland forest landscape of the north German lowlands.

history

In 1847 Schweinitz was listed in the "Topographical-Statistical Handbook of the Prussian State". The church village included a hereditary lease, a forest ranger's office , a windmill, 64 houses and 470 souls.

On December 1, 1928, the Schweinitz-Forst estate was merged with the rural community of Schweinitz. The community Schweinitz belonged to the district of Jerichow I and from July 1, 1950 to the district of Burg , before it was assigned to the district of Loburg through a regional reform on July 25, 1952 . On June 20, 1957, it was reclassified to the district of Zerbst . For more than 16 years, from January 1, 1974 to March 31, 1990, Schweinitz was part of the municipality of Rosian.

After that, until December 31, 2009, Schweinitz was again an independent municipality, to which the former district of Schweinitzer Hütten belonged. The municipality of Schweinitz belonged to the Möckern-Loburg-Fläming administrative community until it was incorporated into Möckern on January 1, 2009 .

politics

The local mayor is Bernhard Herder.

The coat of arms was approved on March 18, 1993 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.

Blazon : “Divided by red through silver; topped with a black boar head reinforced in red. "

The colors of the community are black - silver (white).

The community has a so-called "talking coat of arms" that is derived from the place name itself, which is of Slavic origin. “Svina” can be derived from the word “Svinica”, which means something like wild boar forest or stream. The extensive oak forest in this region is evidence of this. On the other hand, the community had a boar's head in Siegeln earlier and this was immortalized as a local symbol in the coat of arms. The red-white division corresponds to the former affiliation to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg and forms the shield base. The Heraldic Society "Black Lion" Leipzig designed the coat of arms and registered it in the Quedlinburg coat of arms under QWR II / 91025 on May 29, 1991.

The flag was approved by the county on December 23, 2008.

The flag is black and white (1: 1) striped (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the municipal coat of arms.

Attractions

The Schweinitzer village church is located in the southwest of the village on an elevated, walled plateau. It is a small square stone building with a hipped roof and an octagonal roof turret with a pointed hood in the middle of the roof. An entrance porch is also attached to the west side made of field stones. The high arched windows and the still existing so-called priest gate suggest a Romanesque origin. The interior is closed by a flat stucco ceiling, and galleries are attached to the north and west walls . The church is also called "Heidereiterkirche", probably after the Prussian Heidereiter Hans Jacob Sembach, who in 1736 carried out extensive renovations to the church. Most of the interior furnishings date from 1936.

Infrastructure

Schweinitz is located on the federal highway 246 between Loburg and Wiesenburg / Mark . The next train station is in Loburg, on the railway line to Magdeburg. However, there is no longer any regular traffic.
