Altengrabow is a settlement in the Dörnitz von Möckern district in the Jerichower Land district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The small scattered settlement is a good kilometer west of Dörnitz in an open agricultural landscape . The shortest route to the city of Möckern in the west is a good 20 kilometers. In the immediate vicinity, the village of Drewitz is only a good kilometer to the northwest and in the south the location borders directly on the military camp of the military training area of the same name . The terrain here reaches heights of around 100 meters.

history

On July 10, 1408, a bitter argument took place here between Kuno von Wulffen auf Grabow bei Burg and his former friend Johann von Quitzow auf Plaue an der Havel . Not far from the Graubau mill in the wooded valley of the Gloine river , later also referred to as Feldmark and Mühlengut Grabau , Johann von Quitzow lost his left eye in a fight with a lance on horseback and Kuno von Wulffen was killed here.

The mill mentioned was later recorded under different names: Göritz- , Klinge- , Klingners- and Hintere Mühle am Gloiner Bache . It belonged to the former Grabow desert , but later went to the village of Gloine and was run as a grinding and cutting mill in 1780.

In 1891 the autumn exercise of the Berlin Guard Corps took place here and in the vicinity . At that time, the highest military authority was looking for a firing range. After a delegation from this authority had surveyed the area, the first exercise with live ammunition began in July 1893 on what is now the site of the military training area. After this starting shot and the final decision on the layout and construction of the firing range on March 23, 1894, the Altengrabow mill was bought by the military in August of the same year.

Until 1950 it belonged to the district of Jerichow I and then to the district of Burg , the place became a district of Dörnitz before 1950. With the incorporation of Dörnitz on January 1, 2009 Altengrabow also became part of the unified municipality of Möckern.

traffic

The railway line coming from Biederitz ends in Altengrabow , where there is seldom traffic. The Bundeswehr is currently subsidizing the Loburg – Altengrabow section as a connection to the military training area.
