Wallwitz is a village and a district of Möckern in the district of Jerichower Land in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Wallwitz, postal addition "bei Burg bei Magdeburg", is an agricultural district on the federal highway 246a between the small towns of Gommern and Möckern . The district town of Burg is 22 kilometers away, and the state capital Magdeburg is 21 kilometers away (each with a motorway connection). The nearest train station is in Zeddenick on the Magdeburg-Loburg route , three kilometers north of Wallwitz. The place is in the western foothills of the Fläming in the midst of agricultural areas with a moderate income value.

In terms of natural space , the place belongs to the Zerbster Land , an arable, open cultural landscape and 536 km² main unit of the superordinate main unit group of the Fläming in the north German lowlands . The Zerbster Land forms the southwestern roof of the Fläming to the Elbe and belongs to the catchment area of this river.

history

In contrast to many other places in the Magdeburg East Elbe region, Wallwitz was officially mentioned relatively late. This takes place in 1322 in a document from the Archbishop of Magdeburg Burchard III. , with which he transferred the place to the Plötzky monastery . Since the place name is of Slavic origin, the area of today's Wallwitz was certainly settled before the Christianization of the region.

With the transfer of ownership to the Plötzky Monastery, Wallwitz also came under the influence of Electoral Saxony , which had formed an enclave in the Magdeburg-Brandenburg area with several places around the city of Gommern. In the 16th century it became the Saxon office of Gommern. In 1591 the place had eight kossats , all of which were loanable. Belonging to Saxony lasted until April 9, 1808. On that day, the Saxon King Friedrich August , who was allied with Napoleon , left the office of Gommern to the French, who incorporated it as a canton into their Kingdom of Westphalia .

But just five years later, on April 30, 1813, Prussian troops conquered the area. From then on, Wallwitz also belonged to the Prussian Kingdom and was assigned to the district of Jerichow I with the district town of Burg with the administrative reform of 1815 . Since the roads and railways built in the 19th century did not directly touch Wallwitz, the place remained closely connected to agriculture. Around 1910 236 people lived in the village.

After the Second World War , refugees from the former German eastern regions settled in Wallwitz. This created a new street, Friedensstrasse. With the GDR territorial reform in 1952, the place came into the newly formed Burg district. In the early 1960s, the Ehle river, which runs through the Wallwitz district, was extensively straightened in order to improve socialist large-scale farming. In 1964, 339 residents were registered in Wallwitz. After the territorial reform caused by German reunification, the place came to the district of Jerichower Land .

From January 1, 2005 until it was incorporated into the town of Möckern on January 1, 2009, the municipality of Wallwitz belonged to the Möckern-Loburg-Fläming administrative community .

politics

The local mayor is Manuela Schindler.

Blazon : “Diagonally left divided by blue and gold; above a fallen golden sword, below a blue flail. "

The coat of arms refers to the local history: Wallwitz was an early German thing place. In its district, the people of the region met at certain times of the year to take part in court days at which “over halt and act” was judged. The jurisdiction over things was later exercised by the Gommern Office. In a chronicle from 1897 it is handed down that during these court days the village mayor had to take care of food and drink, for which he had two hooves free from the Lords of Zerbst from Gommern. The sword in the coat of arms expresses the high level of jurisdiction, while the flail refers to the agricultural tradition.

The municipality decided on August 30, 1995 to display both symbols in the coat of arms in mixed-up tinctures of blue and gold. The coat of arms was designed in 1995 by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .

The flag is striped yellow - blue (1: 1) (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and has the coat of arms in the center.

Attractions

The Protestant St. Timothy Church is a late Romanesque building, consisting of the nave, a somewhat narrower chancel and a polygonal apse . A half-timbered roof turret was erected over the western gable. The outer walls are made of rubble stones, with the Romanesque windows still in the north wall. The interior is closed off by a flat wooden ceiling with historicist paintings. An L-shaped gallery resting on Renaissance pillars runs along the north and west walls. The baptismal font, which dates back to the Romanesque period, is the oldest inventory item in the church next to the wood-carved altar shrine, which dates from the beginning of the 16th century. Extensive renovations were carried out on the church in the 19th century.
