Wüstenjerichow is a village and a district of Möckern in the Jerichower Land district in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The village of Wüstenjerichow is located approx. 19 km southeast of Burg on the edge of the Möckern-Magdeburgerforth conservation area.
history
Wüstenjerichow was first mentioned in 1285 as Gargowe . The name Wüstenjerichow became common in 1459. In the district of Jerichow I in the province of Saxony , the two manor districts Waldrogäsen and Wüstenjerichow were merged to form the rural community of Rogäsen-Jerichow . Rogäsen-Jerichow was renamed Wüstenjerichow in 1964 . Until December 31, 2009 Wüstenjerichow was the smallest independent municipality in the district of Jerichower Land with the associated district Waldrogäsen and the last mayor was Fredi Wolter. On January 1, 2010 Wüstenjerichow was incorporated into the city of Möckern .
coat of arms
Blazon : "Divided by silver and blue obliquely to the left, above a leafy green oak branch with two silver acorns in a green capsule, below a silver trout rising obliquely to the left."
The coat of arms of Wüstenjerichow refers to the fish farming that has been practiced in the village for many generations and to the natural environment. If you drive through the community, you will see the trout or carp ponds, you can take a break at the “Zum Forellenhof” inn or experience the traditional fishing festival. For this reason, a silver trout on a blue background was chosen. Wüstenjerichow and the district Waldrogäsen are embedded in forests with a large oak population; therefore the oak branch is included in the coat of arms. The colors of the municipality are: blue - silver (white). The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and approved by the district on April 14, 2008. The flag is blue and white (1: 1) striped (horizontal shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the coat of arms.
