church

See the main article: Church of Augstagirren

Before 1945 there was almost exclusively a Protestant population in Augstagirren and in Groß Baum . Until 1909, both places were assigned to the Laukischken church , until an independent parish was founded in Augstagirren. A separate pastor's office was set up after assistant preachers had been sent to here from Laukischken since 1906. In the years 1923 to 1926 a church made of field stones was built in Augstagirren , with a later built, plastered brick tower. The parish of Augstagirren, which existed until 1945, included twelve localities. It was incorporated into the church district of Labiau in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union .

As a result of the war and due to the flight and displacement of the local population, church life in Sosnowka died out after 1945. The church building survived the war almost unscathed, but later served as a cultural hall with a cinema for a purpose other than intended. The windows were walled up, the roof covered with asbestos cement panels. In the meantime the church has been extensively renovated: the roof has been re-covered and new windows have been installed. Apparently the church is also serving its original purpose again.

Sosnowka is now in the catchment area of the newly founded Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Polessk (Labiau) , a branch congregation of the Resurrection Church in Kaliningrad (Königsberg) within the Kaliningrad provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia .
