church

Church building

On July 13, 1913, Groß Kuhren received the newly built church in the neo-Gothic style. It stands north of the A 192 trunk road, and its construction was made possible by the legacy of the merchant's widow Fischer-Joppien. The church survived the war unscathed, was then neglected, served as a dance hall in the 1990s and was then converted into a cultural center. The roof was re-covered with asbestos sheets, the structural condition is stable. The situation was different for the nearby Baptist Chapel, which - like many of the surrounding residential buildings - had to be demolished.

Parish

Before 1945 there was an almost exclusively Protestant population in Groß Kuhren . The village was incorporated into the parish of the parish church in Heiligenkreutz (today in Russian: Krasnotorowka) and remained parochial connected to the mother parish as a subsidiary parish even after the church was built. It belonged to the parish of Fischhausen (Primorsk) within the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . Today Primorye is located in the catchment area of the resurrection parish in Kaliningrad (Königsberg) , which was newly established in the 1990s, within the Kaliningrad provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of European Russia .
