Orechowo ( Russian Орехово , German  Schalben ) is a place in the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Selenogradsk in Zelenogradsky District .

Geographical location

Orechowo is 40 kilometers north-west of the city of Kaliningrad (Königsberg), four kilometers from the north-western tip of Samland (Brüster Ort) on the regional road 27A-013 (ex A192 ). There is no rail connection.

history

The until 1946 Schalben village called belonged 1874-1945 for District United Kuhren (now Russian: Primorje) in the district Fischhausen (1939-1945 district Samland ) in the administrative district of Konigsberg the Prussian province of East Prussia . In 1910 the place had 124 inhabitants.

On October 17, 1928, the place expanded when the neighboring community Mandtkeim (today Russian: Maiski) was incorporated. The population rose to 173 by 1933 and was 155 in 1939.

As a result of the war, Schalben came to the Soviet Union with northern East Prussia in 1945 . In 1947 the place was given the Russian name Orechowo and was assigned to the village soviet Jantarski selski Sowet in Primorsk Rajon . Later the place came into the Powarowski selski Sowet . From 2005 to 2015 Orechowo belonged to the rural municipality of Krasnotorovskoye selskoje posselenije and since then to the city district of Zelenogradsk.
