Werbnoje ( Russian Вербное , German  Darienen ) is a place in the Russian Oblast Kaliningrad . It belongs to the local government unit Stadtkreis Selenogradsk in Zelenogradsky District .

Geographical location

Werbnoje on the southern shore of the Curonian Lagoon (Russian: Kurschski Saliw) located 24 kilometers north of the Oblasthauptstadt Kaliningrad (Konigsberg) and five kilometers southeast of the Rajonstadt Zelenogradsk (Cranz) on the municipal road 27K-211 Sosnowka (Bledau) with Lugowskoje (Lobitten) connects . The nearest train station is Sosnowka on the Kaliningrad – Zelenogradsk – Pionersky railway line (Königsberg – Cranz – Neukuhren) .

The village, called Darienen before 1946 , which was still called Wargienen until 1855 , was incorporated into the newly established Bledau district (today in Russian: Sosnowka) in 1874 and belonged to the Königsberg district (Prussia) (1939 to 1945 Samland district ) in the Königsberg administrative district of the Prussian province East Prussia . On July 12, 1909, the town - which had a total of 143 inhabitants in 1895 - was incorporated into the Bledau (Sosnowka) manor district and thus lost its independence.

In 1945 Darienen came to the Soviet Union like all other towns in northern East Prussia . The place received the Russian name Werbnoje in 1947 and was assigned at the same time to the village soviet Cholmski selski Sowet in Primorsk Raion . Later the place came to the Vishnevsky selski Sowet . From 2005 to 2015 Werbnoje belonged to the rural community Kovrovskoje selskoje posselenije and since then to the city district of Zelenogradsk.
