Adolf Boetticher

Adolf Gustav Boetticher (also Adolf Bötticher ; born December 12, 1842 in Blumberg , Niederbarnim , Brandenburg ; † June 9, 1901 in Warnicken , Samland , East Prussia ) was a German architect and preservationist . He was involved in excavations in Greece and published an eight-volume publication on architectural and art monuments in East Prussia .

Life

His father Heinrich Adolf Boetticher was a Protestant preacher in Blumberg, his mother Emilie Pauline a daughter of the justice of the peace Schollinus. Adolf Boetticher studied at the Berlin Building Academy from 1865 to 1868 and then worked as an architect in the public sector. In 1875 he was given the technical management of the German excavations in Olympia , which were carried out under the direction of the archaeologist Gustav Hirschfeld . From 1877 he worked as a technical assistant for the city of Berlin and published the weekly newspaper for architects and engineers from 1879 to 1882 , in which he reported on the excavations in Greece and Cyprus.

In 1886 Adolf Boetticher was entrusted with the inventory of the architectural and art monuments of the Prussian province of East Prussia and in 1891 was appointed provincial curator for East Prussia. He was subsequently also the head of the Monument Office of the Province of East Prussia . From 1892 to 1898 he published eight volumes of the architectural and art monuments of the Province of East Prussia and in 1899 was appointed Provincial Curator for West Prussia .
