Jacob Schuettinger
Jacob Schüttinger (born March 22, 1816 in Bamberg ; † September 21, 1877 ibid) was a German lawyer in Bamberg. In the Bavarian state parliament and in the Reichstag he represented democratic principles.
Life
Schüttinger attended the Kaiser-Heinrich-Gymnasium Bamberg . After graduating from high school, he studied law at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich . In 1838 he was reciprocated in the Corps Bavaria Würzburg . In 1848 he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. For the German Center Party he represented the constituency of Upper Franconia 5 (Bamberg) in the Reichstag (German Empire) from 1871 , to which he belonged until 1877. From 1869 until his death he was also a (Protestant) member of the Chamber of Deputies (Bavaria) for the same constituency. There is a record of a speech he gave in October 1869 in Forchheim town hall . At the time of the founding of the German Empire , he sat on the committee that advised the treaty of alliance between the Kingdom of Bavaria and the North German Confederation . From 1874 he led the parliamentary group of the Bavarian Patriot Party . He belonged to the group around Josef Edmund Jörg . He resolutely opposed the waiver of diets for the Reichstag members:
“[He] means the exclusion of political characters, the exclusion of talent and intelligence, if these advantages are not paired with wealth. It is nothing more than the preference of the rich over the poor. I find this to be a falsification of public opinion because, in my opinion, in many cases a completely different person would appear in the Reichstag as the representative of the people if he were not compelled to reject the mandate because of his poverty. ... I do not want to give my approval to a constitution that will deeply shake Bavaria as the largest southern German state in its rights, restrict the degree of civil liberty, atrophy the rights of the people and ultimately bring about nothing but an absolutist, military-ruled state, an absolutist-military hegemony.
