Theodor Johann Philipp Karl von Bethmann-Hollweg (born December 29, 1821 in Berlin ; † June 7, 1886 at Rheineck Castle ) was a lawyer, manor owner , diplomat , member of the Reichstag and member of the Prussian mansion .

family

Theodor Bethmann-Hollweg was a scion of the Frankfurt banking family Bethmann . His grandfather was the banker Johann Jakob Bethmann-Hollweg , his father the later Prussian minister of education Moritz August von Bethmann-Hollweg . Like Theodor, his younger brother Felix was a member of the Reichstag and a member of the Prussian mansion. The later Chancellor Theobald von Bethmann Hollweg was his nephew.

Theodor Bethmann-Hollweg married on July 28, 1870 Freda Anna Karoline von Arnim (1842–1916), daughter of the Prussian Interior Minister Adolf Heinrich von Arnim-Boitzenburg .

Life

Bethmann Hollweg was studying in Bonn , Berlin and Halle law . From 1844 to 1848 he was an ausculator and trainee lawyer at the court and government in Merseburg , and from 1849 to 1852 as a diplomat in Brussels and London . At the same time he was the manor owner on Runowo near Vandsburg in the Wirsitz district .

Between 1853 and 1856 he was a member of the provincial parliament for the knighthood of the Wirsitz district, from 1859 to 1861 and 1866 to 1870 a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for Bromberg -Wirsitz. During the war of 1870–1871 he was Imperial German Prefect of the French Maas Department. In 1873 he was appointed to the Prussian manor house . He was a member of the constituent and ordinary North German Reichstag from 1867 to 1871 for the Old Liberal Center and the constituency of Samter - Birnbaum . He was a member of the German Reichstag from 1874 to 1877 (non-attached) and from 1878 to 1881 for the German Reich Party and the constituency Bromberg 2 (Wirsitz - Schubin ).
