Neighboring areas

In early 1977 the district bordered clockwise in the north, starting with the independent city of Cuxhaven , the mouth of the Elbe and the districts of Stade , Bremervörde and Wesermünde . In the northwest it bordered the North Sea .

history

The county Hadeln went to the annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover by Prussia in 1885 from the former Hanover Office Otterndorf forth. During the Prussian district reform of 1932, the Hadeln district was merged with most of the Neuhaus an der Oste district and the Altenwalde community from the dissolved Lehe district to form the new district of Hadeln . Colloquially, the name was common as Kreis Land Hadeln , the seat of the district administration was Otterndorf .

In the Reichstag elections on March 5, 1933 , the NSDAP received 55.5% of the valid votes cast in the Hadeln district.

As part of the Greater Hamburg Act , the municipalities of Arensch , Berensch , Gudendorf , Holte, Spangen, Oxstedt and Sahlenburg moved from the state of Hamburg to the district of Hadeln on April 1, 1937 .

As a result of the regional reform in Lower Saxony and the associated municipal mergers, the number of municipalities in the district was reduced from 58 to 23 between 1968 and 1972. Several municipalities left the district and were incorporated into the independent city of Cuxhaven . Associated with this was a significant loss of population for the district.

With effect from August 1, 1977, the districts of Hadeln and Wesermünde were merged with the independent city of Cuxhaven to form the district of Cuxhaven . The city of Cuxhaven became the new district town.
